Worm Composting Essentials
Pure Red Wigglers, Worm Bedding, & Worm Bins
Worm Composting is the most practical way to handle your food and yard waste for most people. It can be done on a small scale, indoors without odors, and the worm castings the earthworms produce is higher quality than regular compost.
Hundreds or thousands of these composting worms can be kept indoors in a small worm bin. As long as you’re doing things correctly there are no odors, no pests, and no other outward indicators that you are housing a small colony of earthworms inside your home.
In ideal conditions, an at home worm farm with 1-2 pounds of worms can handle a half pound to a full pound of food daily. This diet can include fruit and vegetable waste, coffee grounds, paper and cardboard waste, fall leaves and more.
As the food is eaten, your worms will produce worm castings which you can eventually harvest for use in your garden.
Red Wigglers are the preferred species for vermicomposting. Built tough, they can withstand a variety of conditions that other composting worms can't, and unlike other worms, red worms don't tend to wander out of their bin.
